From the La Grange Farmers Market & Artisan held every Saturday in La Grange, to concerts, car shows and cemetery walks, summer is not slowing down much even as the leaves begin to turn in Oldham County. Many of these events are held outdoors, soaking up those last rays of summer as fall ushers in fun events for all ages. So get out and explore Oldham County – from its Hometown Tourist Staycation program to traversing the Oldham County Lewis & Clark Trail, you won’t run out of all things Kentucky to do – ONLY in Oldham!

Trackside Tunes featuring Allen Lane Band

The final Trackside Tunes concert of the season will feature Oldham County’s own Allen Lane Band. They will be rockin’ La Grange with their brand of country with a southern rock flare. The band has shared the stage with country music stars Montgomery Gentry, Jarred Neimann, Craig Campbell, David Nail, and top country song writer Rhett Akins. La Grange Kentucky: Main Street hosts this popular summer concert series. FREE admission.

For Oldham County Public Library senior patrons ages 55 and up. Join library staff on Wednesday mornings as they take a leisurely stroll through Creasey Mahan Nature Preserve in Goshen and talk about what books they’re reading, shows or movies seniors are watching and what little critters they may encounter. Meet outside the Creasey Mahan Nature Center for a one mile walk at a slow pace. No registration necessary.
*This stroll takes place every week on Wednesdays through September.

Foxhollow’s Sunset Concerts are a celebration of community and a great opportunity for folks to come together to enjoy live music, farm-fresh food, and libations. The September 9 concert features:   Queen City Silver Stars (Original Soca, Calypso, Reggae) from 5 – 7 p.m. and Revynalize (Rock’n’Roll Hits) from 7:30 – 9 p.m. Revynalize plays Rock and Roll in the Louisville, KY area, specializing in the hits of the 50s, 60s, and 70s.

Enjoy farm-fresh food for purchase from two anchor food vendors:  Duck Duck Beet and Happy Belly Bistro. Foxhollow’s100% grassfed beef will be featured along with vegetarian, gluten-free, and vegan options. An assortment of desserts will also be available for purchase. There will be an assortment of non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages available. Foxhollow’s bar will feature Rabbit Hole Bourbon + Liddel Vodka, Elixer kombucha, Modica Mocktails + Cocktails, Biodynamic wine, and local craft beer. Please bring a blanket, lawn chairs, or comfy outdoor cushions to sit on. Seating is first come first serve. Pop-up tents and umbrellas are permitted. And please wear comfortable farm dancing shoes as this concert is on a farm lawn.

Stroll along Main Street in La Grange for a fun mix of music, vintage finds, and new handcrafted arts and crafts. A variety of vendors and artisans will display their one-of-a-kind creations. Purchase lunch at a food truck or at one of the many great local Main Street eateries. Organizers expect to have over 50 vendors on hand in addition to the great local shops, museums and attractions for visitors to check out. The La Grange Farmers Market & Artisans will take place on Saturday as well. Hosted by La Grange Kentucky Main Street and sponsored by Mercantile on Main.

Rumble Through the Jungle Cross Country Race

This will be the 18th year for this exciting sporting event hosted by North Oldham High School. This is a statewide cross-country race in which the top three teams in each race receive awards.

Kentucky Waterways Alliance is thrilled to be hosting their 14th Annual Wild & Scenic Film Festival. For this year’s event attendees will be able to in for a family-friendly event at the Sauerbeck Family Drive In or watch the festival online from the comfort of their own homes.

Considered one of the nation’s premier environmental and adventure film festivals, this year’s Wild & Scenic films combine stellar filmmaking, beautiful cinematography, and first-rate storytelling to inform, inspire, and ignite solutions and possibilities to restore the earth and human communities while creating a positive future for the next generation. KWA hopes to use the festival to increase a better community understanding of the connection we share with the planet and our role as stewards to keep it healthy for the next generations. 

Wildlife Hike at the Preserve

Meet at the Picnic Pavilions behind the Nature Center at Creasey Mahan Nature Preserve. Naturalist Jacob Crider will help reveal wildlife along the hike in addition to the favorite hiding spots of reptiles and amphibians such as frogs, snakes, and salamanders. He’ll point out a variety of gorgeous birds and insects and the friendly faces of wildflowers will be greeted and identified along the way. Wear comfortable shoes for walking on uneven ground. Difficulty is easy to moderate. Masks are optional. We encourage you to bring binoculars, camera or smartphone, and plenty of curiosity! Register at their website.

Constitution Day (Citizenship Day) commemorates the formation and signing of the U.S. Constitution by thirty-nine brave men on September 17, 1787, recognizing all who are born in the U.S. or by naturalization, have become citizens. Visit the Dahlgren Pioneer Barn to learn about the US Constitution and participate in this educational yet exciting FREE Barnyard Fun event.

Retrospective Art Show

Visit Gallery 104 in downtown La Grange to see the latest exhibit by the Arts Association of Oldham County (AAOC) entitled, Retrospective Art Show. The gallery is a poplar shopping destination for tourists and locals alike who are looking for gifts or that little something special to add to at their home decor or wearable art collection. The AAOC is responsible for putting on such juried fine art events as the annual Arts on the Green and Winter in Kentucky.

 

Pickin’ on the Porch featuring Bluegrass 101

Bluegrass 101 will round out this concert season for the year. This final concert will feature a bluegrass band formed in 1994 which continues to carry on a tradition of smooth vocal harmonies and precise traditional musical performance. The band has released 7 albums and has also shared the stage with some of the biggest names in bluegrass music such as Ricky Skaggs and Doyle Lawson.

 

Barnyard Fun – Nature Day

BBQ and Beats Fest at CityPlace

This FREE fun event combines great food, great music and a great cause. In addition to the food and music, additional events include a Cornhole Tournament, kid’s activities and new this year a “Best Beard” competition. Food trucks on site include Taylor BBQ, Just Piggin’ Out, and Just Chillin’ Out (ice cream). Entry fees must be paid for the Cornhole Tournament ($15 per player) and the Best Beard event. All proceeds raised will benefit the Veteran’s Club, an awesome nonprofit that helps military veterans and their families. The Veterans Club serves over 6,000 people annually.

2022 Oldham County BioBlitz

Currys Fork is collaborating with Creasey Mahan Nature Preserve to host a BioBlitz as part of the 2022 Oldham County BioBlitz Challenge! Join Jacob and Becca for a guided walk through the preserve. You can use the iNaturalist app to take observations (pictures) of plants and wildlife, or simply enjoy a pleasant walk through nature. Candlelight Cemetery Walk thru Floydsburg Cemetery

Join Oldham County History Center staff for a Candlelight Cemetery walk and tour of the Floydsburg Cemetery, one of the oldest and most beautiful cemeteries in the county. This program also includes a tour of Duncan Memorial Chapel which has been used as a wedding venue since 1937. Program must be paid for in advance by calling the Oldham County History Center at (502) 222-0826 for tickets.
