Three Louisville restaurants make the cut in Yelp’s Top 100 for 2022

TOURISM NOTE:  Included in the list at #89 is Bully Barbeque in La Grange, Oldham County, KY. While taking in any of the many Tour options in Oldham County, there’s nothing better than small town Kentucky BBQ for a local dining experience. Known for their enormous hand-cut fries, homemade fried pickles, their hickory smoked pulled pork and brisket are said to be the best around. Located in an old carwash building, they are across the street from Oldham County High School. This article appeared in Louisville Business First on January 20, 2022.

Three Louisville restaurants are among the top 100 places to eat in America according to the online review site Yelp.

The cheese and charcuterie restaurant Cultured, CASK Souther Kitchen & Bar, and Bully Barbeque all made Yelp’s Top 100 Restaurants list for 2022, which was released on Wednesday.

Cultured, located at 1007 E. Main St., was the highest local restaurant to make the cut. It was No. 16 on the list.

“We’re all a little shocked,” said owner Jessica Mattingly. “We didn’t even know we were nominated. My sister ended up Googling how they put the list together because it was hard to believe.”

To determine the top places to eat in 2022, Yelp reached out to its user community, requesting individuals submit restaurants that they can’t wait to return to this year. Yelp’s data science team analyzed the submissions from the community to determine the top restaurants by ratings, number of reviews, and volume of submissions, with geographic representation based on equal share of submissions of top-rated restaurants nationally. Yelp further curated the list with the expertise of Community Managers around the country to finalize the rankings.

One Yelp reviewers said of Cultured, “Cheese, wine, an adorable patio, friendly staff — what’s not to love? Cultured is my kind of place. Locally owned and operated, delicious selection of cheese, meats and all of the accouterments beautifully arranged on a tray, wine, beer, bourbon and more!”

Mattingly opened Cultured in September 2020 to showcase products from Kenny’s Farm House Cheese, a company her father operates from her family’s farm in Glasgow, Kentucky.

Cultured offers cheese slices and made-to-order charcuterie boards that feature products from Louisville companies like Red Hog and What Chefs Want. The restaurant also has a full bar.

Ironically, Mattingly said she found out about the honor from Yelp on the eve of National Cheese Day.

CASK Southern Kitchen & Bar, 9980 Linn Station Road, was No. 73 on the list, and Bully Barbeque in La Grange, Kentucky, came in at No. 89.

CASK offers a new take on traditional Southern food with a nod to bourbon history. Bully Barbeque, which is located in a former car wash, is known for its brisket and pulled pork.
