Honoree: The Peyton Samuel Head Trust, Champion of Oldham County History Award
The Oldham County History Center began with the donation of property from Louise Head Duncan (1891-1990) who left her home at 108. N. Second and a second house at 106. N. Second to the Oldham County Historical Society. Her home is now the Peyton Samuel Head Family Museum, and the second house is a repository for the J.C. Barnett Library & Archives, all located on the History Center campus. The J.C. Barnett Library & Archives was designated in 2016 by the National Park Service on the National Underground Railroad Network. The Oldham County Historical Society, founded in 1958, is grateful for the generosity of Louise Head Duncan who was responsible for the creation of the Oldham County History Center which opened its doors in 1998. This year the Oldham County History Center will honor the Peyton Samuel Head Trust as the Champion of Oldham County History.
Mrs. Duncan also created The Peyton Samuel Head Family Trust and left $5 million to distribute as funding for projects in Oldham County. Many Oldham County organizations, including the Oldham County History Center, have benefited throughout the years.
This year’s gala will be held at the Windy Meadows Farm Equestrian Center owned by Ellie and Randy Troutman. The event theme is “Saddle Up!” featuring country western décor, special drinks and a southern buffet by Our Best Restaurant in Smithfield. Tickets are $175 per person and includes open bar, food and entertainment.
