Designations by the National Park Service Network to Freedom
Here in Oldham County, we are well-known for our Underground Railroad programs! Our Underground Railroad History is recognized by two designations by the National Park Service Network to Freedom – one being the ONLY Archives designation in Kentucky! Your group will love our Lunch & Learn on the Underground Railroad, a Perk only available through the Oldham County Tourism office. A Kentucky Comfort Foods buffet is provided while we learn from a nationally renowned Underground Railroad book author, then tour of a slave-owner’s parlor. *We do this tour as a lunch or dinner option!
The Oldham County Tourism office is excited to present two cemeteries available for private group tours through the Tourism Office!
A fascinating private cemetery with Little Colonel history, southern antebellum history, and Underground Railroad history – all in Kentucky’s only recognized true Confederate Cemetery
A pre-Civil War thru current time cemetery tour by candlelight to learn about Oldham County’s Underground Railroad history through the actual lives of its people. *This is the perfect addition to an afternoon tour with our Kentucky Comfort Foods buffet dinner, and speaker.
Oldham County is also home to Craft Bourbon Tours & Tastings, Old-Fashioned Cocktail Classes with horses, 13 different Farm Tours (5 are horse farms), mead & cider tastings at Kentucky’s ONLY Meadery, a gorgeous, easily accessible Botanical Gardens, and a very walkable , Mayberry-esque historic Main Street shopping and dining district! Conveniently located outside the bustle of the city, we are close enough to still include such regional attractions as the Kentucky Derby Museum at Churchill Downs, the Louisville Slugger Museum, or the Ali Center, and the NEW Roots 101 African American Museum, in our itineraries!
The Oldham County town of La Grange was featured in the HGTV series, “Home Town Kickstart” that premiered April 24th, 2022. We always include time on Main Street in La Grange where you’ll find shopping & dining as part of our most Oldham County Group Tour Itineraries!
NOTE: As with all small towns, a tour group beyond the normal local crowd can catch small restaurants and shops off guard, and we don’t want that to happen to you! Keep in mind that many mom-and-pop shops and restaurants in Kentucky are closed on Sundays and Mondays.
