While the temperature climbs in July, you can find plenty of cool things to do in Oldham County to beat the heat! Watch for ongoing seasonal events such as the La Grange Farmers’ Market & Artisans, happening every Saturday May – October from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. in downtown La Grange and 13 great interactive Farm Tours where you can visit a new farm each day of the week and get up close and personal with the farm animals. Plus check out these 25 additional events!

Senior Strolls through Creasey Mahan Nature Preserve

For Oldham County Public Library senior patrons ages 55 and up.  Join library staff on Wednesday mornings as they take a leisurely stroll through Creasey Mahan Nature Preserve in Goshen and talk about a variety of interests as well as woodland critters they may encounter along the way. Meet outside the Nature Center for a one mile walk at a slow pace. No registration necessary. Takes place every week on Wednesdays, beginning June 1 and ending on August 31, 2022.

15th Annual Firecracker 5K Run/Walk

Join Oldham County Parks and Recreation for the 15th annual Firecracker 5K Run/Walk which will start and finish at Schamback Park. After May 31 registration is $40 and closes on Friday, July 8 at 2 p.m. Packet pickup and day of registration is Saturday, July 9 from 7 – 7:50 a.m. at the shelter in Schamback Park. Awards are given in a variety of age groups and all participants receive a T-shirt and a finish medal. Awards will be presented and on-line registration is available.

Tea and Talk: A Tea Party and 1820s Fashion Show

If you’ve ever wondered what ladies fashion looked like in Oldham County in the 1820s, join the Oldham County History Center on Saturday, July 9 to discover how women dressed when the county was founded 200 years ago. Special guest presenter will be Amy Leibert, who is knowledgeable in women’s fashions and clothing and has given presentations at Louisville’s historic Locust Grove. Enjoy a tea party with refreshments based on recipes from Oldham County history.

Bibb Escapes Archaeology Field School

week-long Archaeology Field School will be held at the Bibb Escapes/Gatewood Plantation on July 11-15, 2022. Since 2007 the Oldham County History Center has conducted archaeology research on this site which is now recognized by the National Park Service as a site on the NPS National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom. The site honors Henry Bibb and his family who were enslaved by William Gatewood and described by Bibb in his narratives – The Life and Adventures of Henry Bibb: An American Slave. Participants work with licensed archaeologists to uncover clues to the past. Open to ages 10+.

Celebrate the 51st Oldham County Day by watching the parade in downtown La Grange around the Courthouse Square. You’ll see the Grand Marshall (this year it is the Be Kind Sisters, Raegan and Rylyn Richens), school marching bands, local politicians, tractors, horses, fire trucks, churches, local business and other group floats that match the parade’s theme for the year. Kids are also invited to decorate their bikes and ride in the parade! Many booths will be set up in the downtown area featuring local artists, vendors, businesses, and churches. You may even get a freebie or win a prize in a raffle! Food and drinks available as well as bounce houses, balloon artists, entertainment, and the Living Statues. Organized by Project Guild of La Grange.

Cortland Eble, geologist for 32 years with the Kentucky Geological Survey, digs into Paleobotany – or fossilized plants – in this workshop geared for all ages! Cortland will talk about the unique characteristics and requirements for plants to fossilize, and have touchable fossil samples collected from around Kentucky. Following this presentation, join a Yew Dell staff member for a walk around the gardens to see living plants related to the fossils.

Quads Custom Car Show with Allen Lane Band

Another great Quads Rod & Custom Car Club Show is scheduled to take place at The Maples Park in July. Quads is an organization that is dedicated to helping the community, and the people in it. For years the club has helped local families throughout the year that encounter hard times. At Christmas the club adopts many families to help through the holidays, and local nursing homes as well. On-site Food Trucks:  Cookie Cabin Creamery, Mile Wide Brewing, and more! Allen Lane Band takes the stage at 6 p.m. Organized by the City of Crestwood.

9th Annual YMCA Family Mud Run –  for Humans and Dogs!!

Experience 2 days of muddy fun for the whole family! The course is roughly 1.5 miles of pure mud and obstacles. This Mud Run is designed for kids (4+) and their parents to do together. All participants receive a t-shirt and refreshments. Waves of 20 runners will go off every 10 minutes. The first day includes a second Mud Run “Dog Edition” for dogs and their handlers (18+). All dogs must have current shots. All participants receive a t-shirt & refreshments. Cost is $28 per person for the “Dog Edition” also.
