Oldham has become a very popular overnight stop for visitors heading to the Ark Encounter and Creation Museum (North & South)!  I-71 is chock full of small town hidden treasures that are big on entertainment and unique things to do that can’t be found on any other highway in Kentucky! You’ll start at Exit 14 off I-71, Crestwood, where you’ll find Kentucky Artisan Distillery, Open Range Sports, and Yew Dell Botanical Gardens, not to mention several of our farm tours tucked out of site. The next top will be Exit 22 off I-71, La Grange. La Grange is where you will find our hotels, historic Main Street shopping & dining district, and our Oldham County History Center Campus and Museum. You will also find CityPlace Expo Center for larger get togethers, conferences, and workshops.

 

You won’t want to miss Oldham’s I-71 Winery Trail that starts right here in Crestwood at Hive & Barrel Meadery at 3rd Turn Brewing Oldham Gardens! Take I-71 to exit 28 where you’ll find Smith-Berry Winery in New Castle and Lake Jericho, a beautiful 137 acre lake in Smithfield, KY with covered shelters with bathrooms, outdoor picnic areas with grills, and a clean place to relax, enjoy nature or have lunch, and is a nice break from the bus ride. Let us know in advance and we will put together boxed lunches for your stop at either place!

 

Exit 44 is Carrollton, home to General Butler State Park!  There is nothing like the buffets at our state parks. You have got to try to the baked banana pudding…delish!

 

At exit 55, Sparta, you will find Kentucky Motor Speedway! Get a behind-the-scenes tour of one of the homes of NASCAR! Get an up-close look at areas that are off limits to fans during race weekends by scheduling a track tour!

 

At exit 57 you’ll find Elk Creek Winery in Owenton. Elk Creek has 30 acres in vine and produced KY’s first Estate Merlot, Pinot Noir, and Sangiovese wines! They bottle nearly 48,000 gallons of wine each year and harvest about 3 tons of grapes per acre (1 ton of grapes yields 450 gallons ot 2,225 bottles of wine).
