Oldham County Lights Up La Grange

The 37th Annual Light Up La Grange is shaping up to be the best it’s ever been! You will find lots to do on Saturday, December 3 the entire day, with activities spread out across the city in such venues as CityPlace, the Springs Park Farmers Market Pavilion, AlleyLoop, historic Main Street and the Oldham County History Center. Special holiday breakfasts begin at 7 a.m. and businesses will be open late as well as have their storefronts decorated in hopes to win the competition for the best Christmas decorations. Main Street restaurants will be open in addition to several Food Trucks stationed at CityPlace and Walnut Ave. Come to La Grange and enjoy the festivities and the best merrymaking of the season!

Vote for the Best Decorated Business

Friday, Dec. 2

Activities actually begin the night before on Friday, Dec. 2 when visitors are encouraged to walk historic Main Street and see all of the storefronts brightly decorated for Christmas. Voting will be held for the top 3 that evening. The top winner receives $100, second place receives $50, and third place $25. Winners will be announced at the Light Up ceremony held in Springs Park on Sat. So get out and vote and take in the sights and sounds leading up to a special Light Up La Grange the following day.

FREE Movie at Southeast Christian

Friday, Dec. 2

At 6 p.m. Southeast Christian Church will open its doors for a free, fun, family-friendly holiday movie at its La Grange campus, located at 410 South First St. Movie starts at 6:30 p.m. Lots of popcorn, candy and fun for all ages!

Breakfast with Santa Claus

Saturday, Dec. 3 from 7 – 10 a.m.
$5 adults/$4 children

All are welcome to attend this annual event which is a fundraiser for the La Grange Elementary School PTA. Breakfast with Santa Claus will feature pancakes, sausage, bacon, coffee, juice and milk.

A Morning with the Grinch

Saturday, Dec. 3 from 9 – 11 a.m.
$3 per person or 1 new unwrapped gift

An annual favorite of many featuring special children’s activities, treats, crafts, and fun photo opportunities throughout the Oldham County History Center campus. Enjoy all that is “Grinchy”! All proceeds donated to HighPoint Charitable Services.

Kids Holiday Hat Workshop

Shop with a Trooper 5K Run/Walk

Main Street La Grange

Saturday, Dec. 3 starting at 3 p.m.
$35 per person registration fee

A 5k Run to benefit “Shop with a Trooper” will begin on Main Street. Participants can walk/run the first portion of the race “on the rails” on the out and back course. Wear your best Christmas gear (UGLY SWEATERS ENCOURAGED!). Two-thirds of the proceeds benefit The Kentucky State Police Shop with a Trooper program for local kids at Christmas time. One-third goes to mission scholarships for those needing help to go and serve on mission trips from Sligo Baptist Church, the facilitator of this event. Oldham County Community Band

An Oldham County favorite, the Oldham County Community Band will perform the sounds of the season. This group loves making music together and sharing it with the community at such special events as Oldham County Day and Light Up La Grange.

Candy Cane Making

Enjoy some good old fashioned candy cane making in City Place’s Pavilion 1 with Just Be Clause Candy Cane Co.! Make your holiday extra sweet by making your own candy cane. Sponsored by Cedar Lake and the Oldham County Chamber of Commerce, participants are asked to bring a $1 donation to benefit the Oldham County Red Cross.

Spring’s Park Farmers Market Pavilion

Make a Christmas Craft, reindeer food for those hard-working reindeer, decorate a cookie, or enjoy lots more activities at the Spring’s Park Farmers’ Market Pavilion. Various local choirs performing on stage at the pavilion include Centerfield Elementary, De Haven Baptist Church, and La Grange Baptist Church.

Oldham County Middle School Band

The award-winning Oldham County Middle School Band is a favorite wherever they perform. Led by band director Tony Wise, the band features three outstanding concert organizations that have developed a reputation for musical excellence through concert and festival performances.

Santa Claus is Coming to Town!

Main Street La Grange
Saturday, Dec. 3 at 6 p.m. 

At exactly 6 p.m., Santa and Mrs. Claus will make their highly anticipated grand entrance down Main Street on a decked-out firetruck. La Grange Mayor John Black and La Grange City Council members will join Santa and Mrs. Claus on stage in Springs Park for a special Light Up La Grange ceremony. Flipping the switch with Santa and Mayor Black will be a local hero, Cassidy Stocker, a cancer survivor.

“Hope Springs Eternal” Sculpture Unveiling

Springs Park
Saturday, Dec. 3 at 6 p.m.

When La Grange lights up, so will “Hope Springs Eternal!” This is a brand-new lighted sculpture created specifically for Springs Park by artist Stephen Winter, who will be present for the unveiling. This artwork was sponsored by La Grange Tourism and the City of La Grange. The drape covering the sculpture was prepared by Vickie Kinser, owner of Friends and Fiber. The cloth was provided by Walker Fabric and the Main Street Program.

Photos with Santa and Mrs. Clause

Dahlgren Family Pioneer Barn, Oldham County History Center campus
Saturday, Dec. 3 at 6:30 p.m.

After the Light Up ceremony, Santa and Mrs. Claus will be stationed in the Dahlgren Family Pioneer Barn on the Oldham County History Center campus until 9 p.m. to greet children and pose for holiday photos.

Activities at the La Grange Railroad Museum

Saturday, Dec. 3
Various ongoing activities beginning at 10 a.m.

The La Grange Railroad Museum will have their doors open and admission is free from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. From 6 – 9 p.m., Revival Coffee Company will be in the heated 1929 blue dining train car serving free hot chocolate and accompanied by a very special Christmas guest! There will also be coloring pages and Christmas music in the museum.
