Oldham KY in a Nutshell Tour (2 Full Days)

Located on I-71 at exits 14-22 and 20 minutes from downtown Louisville, Oldham KY is home to many unique attractions that you’ll find Only in Oldham! We realize there are so many cool things to see and do in Kentucky, so this has become what folks refer to as our “Oldham in a Nutshell” tour! It will give you a taste of what other motorcoach groups love about Oldham, KY – with 2 full days of activities! Our local room tax is the lowest in the region, so plan now to stay at one of our five hotels in La Grange and SAVE!

This is our most popular group tour for those passing through Oldham, KY on their way to another destination – over the last couple of years, the Ark Encounter – only 70 minutes away! Attractions have partnered with our Tourism office to provide very entertaining, memorable, and educational tours that are special to our Group Tour guests. Keep in mind, tour content depends on day traveling. In Kentucky, for example, most historic downtown shops are closed on Sundays & Mondays.

We Make It Easy For You!

We guide you with complimentary planning assistance, offer you a gratuity-only step-on guide while in Oldham County, offer you a ONE payment option for everything in your Oldham itinerary (after your lodging reservations are made), and more! How’s that for easy?

Evening Hotel Check-In & Dinner

Includes a local pizza restaurant (reservations made for you), OR their food truck waiting at the hotel – a great “included” meal option at a set price per person – But NOT just any pizza! Our own Hometown Pizza has been voted the BEST PIZZA in KENTUCKY for the last 3 years! Our groups love to grab a bite at their own pace and to just relax after a long spell on the bus! Our locally-owned Hometown Pizza is a group favorite because whether it’s their food truck with homemade pepperoni & cheese personals, or a more substantial pizza, salad, and dessert buffet setup in the hotel, they work through our Tourism Office to include such unique Kentucky flavors as the “Kentucky Hot Brown” pizza! If you would rather eat at the restaurant, they are located a couple blocks from the hotels. The perk of arriving in the evening? Our tour day can start early in the morning after breakfast in the hotel!

Full Day 1 – Hidden Treasures of Crestwood

The fastest growing city in Kentucky, Crestwood is chock full of hidden gems that you won’t see just driving around! Our Tourism Executive Director is your step-on guide today (complimentary with your stay in Oldham KY)! She has lived in Oldham County for 20 years, and has been Tourism Director 14 years – long before anything else was here. She knows the scoop, the skinny, and the little known facts, and loves to take pictures of groups on the tour as souvenirs (you’ll get them after the tour).

As our Director boards the motorcoach at your hotel, she points out the local hot spots, local history, and notable places along the way to the first stop – a gorgeous morning farm tour of Woodland Bison Farm overlooking the Ohio River (a favorite in the spring and fall). It’s amazing when we find that over half of our group tourists have never ridden on a hay wagon! Not only does this tour offer them the opportunity to ride, it offers gorgeous views of the Ohio River from atop the farm’s bison field, a treehouse built for grandchildren, organic and heirloom fruit orchards & gourmet veggies grown for restaurants, heritage breed animals, fields of wildflowers, modern artwork throughout the farm (huge florescent pink snails & lime green rabbits line the driveway), of course bison, and Woodland’s Farm Store where they can grab a snack, heirloom seeds to take home and plant, taste rare heirloom tomatoes, and use the restroom before re-boarding the motorcoach for the next stop.

Next up they’ll enjoy a “Kentucky Horse Farm Picnic” at Hermitage Farm, a thoroughbred farm raising race horses and carriage driving sport horses! Enjoy a boxed lunch from their Barn8 Restaurant before your Hermitage horse farm tour. Visited by Queen Elizabeth, Hermitage operates as a maternity ward and nursery for thoroughbred race horses, producing over 200 stakes winners since its inception.

Another popular option is a lunch buffet with private behind-the-scenes tour of Yew Dell Botanical Gardens, including their new fairy village! There is nothing like a tour of Yew Dell and seeing the castle at any time of year!

Well, you can’t come to Kentucky without at least learning about bourbon! Kentucky Artisan Distillery offers us a fabulous group tour & tasting – as unique as the bourbons themselves! Groups love our craft distillery tour because Kentucky Artisan makes expensive small-batch bourbon by high-end names. For the ones in your group that don’t drink, they’ll love learning about the process of small-batch bourbon prepared and completed by hand versus a machine-processing large distillery. A tasting is offered for those who would like to try 6 different brands, including a bourbon only sold in Kentucky! They will also take a walk down memory lane as they tinker with distilling antiques of yesteryear. There is also a gift shop and restrooms before getting back on the road!

Through the Tourism office only, this experience can offer a catered Kentucky comfort foods buffet lunch or dinner on the deck.

Full Day 2 – A Day in Historic Downtown La Grange

La Grange is the ONLY town in the world with a CSX freight train running ON its Main Street! It’s called a “Streetrunner!” But you don’t have to be a train enthusiast to love this one-of-a-kind experience of the train passing slowly by while you sit in awe on a park bench of the courthouse lawn. In addition to the train, Downtown has a very walkable Main Street filled with shops, galleries, boutiques, consignment shops, hobby shops, and restaurants.

The Tourism Director will meet you at your hotel on day two! Today offers a tour of the newly renovated, interactive Oldham History Center Campus and Museum with an Underground Railroad guest speaker! Oldham KY holds 2 of only 9 Kentucky Underground Railroad designations by the National Park Service! You’ll love our catered BBQ buffet lunch (“included” meal) while you listen and participate in the discussion and pass around their antique whiskey jug collection – the largest collection in the U.S..

After lunch, they’ll step just outside the History Center and enjoy browsing, snacking, and train watching on our very walkable, charming historic Main Street in La Grange. La Grange is full of shops, eateries, galleries, boutiques, ice cream shops, hand-dipped chocolates, and plenty of benches to people-watch. In the summertime, there are concerts by the tracks on Fridays, and many events throughout the year!

Their afternoon horse farm tour will be the talk of their trip to Oldham KY! They’ll be blown away by the size and number of breeds on this tour! They will get to touch them, love on them, see them perform, and even see the personal horse of actor, Jon Voigt! It never fails, this farm tour has a WOW factor!

Dinner at One Nineteen West Main restaurant in downtown La Grange by the tracks is a sure-fire way to witness the passing train outside the restaurant windows! Through the Tourism office, they offer a one-price menu that includes apps, main course, dessert, and drinks – the perfect included meal! Or, if your group likes to try new foods, Ernestos Mexican on Main Street, or Cattleman’s steak house by the hotel are great choices on their own!

A great nightcap after dinner is spending time on the deck of Main Street Bourbon & Ale House where they can also climb up into the train observation tower…if not, dinner was a perfect ending to our fabulous Oldham KY in a Nutshell Group Tour! See you again soon!
