Harvest Moon Dairy, Crestwood

(Best tour time: 3pm) – Farm Tour $10pp, $60 min.

Tour one of the few working dairies left in Kentucky! As a supplier for Dean Foods, you’ll see the process of how milk gets from the cow to your favorite grocery store! Tours are fascinating and educational, and offer you hands-on experiences such as making corn meal, milking, and feeding the animals. Tours may include the rest of the farm showing how to grow, harvest, and store crops; use conservation practices to protect the environment; or any seasonal farm activity such as a hay ride. 1 Hour Tour.

Woodland Farm (KY Bison Co.)

Farm Tour $12pp, min. 10 people

The first things you notice as you approach the farm are huge hot pink snails and fluorescent green rabbits – find out why they’re there! You‘ll visit the main pasture-raised bison herd and hear the benefits of intensive rotational grazing. You’ll also explore their mobile coop and hear about the role pastured chickens play in pest reduction and fertilization. You‘ll then head to the greenhouse and gardens to learn about raising produce without synthetic fertilizer or chemicals. Finally, the tour will head down to the river bottoms to see how hogs being raised alongside their mamas helps reduce costs while improving meat quality. Rootbound Farm, Crestwood

Farm Tours $12pp, $75 min.

Rootbound Farm is a certified organic farm producing vegetables and grass-fed lamb for their Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program and farmer’s markets as well as many of Louisville’s best farm-to-table restaurants. You’ll learn about organic production and sustainable growing practices such as cover cropping, natural methods for disease and pest control, and water conservation. Learn about how your food is grown by following a plant from seed to field to harvest. Our flock of 75 Katahdin sheep are a highlight of the tour and you’ll learn about the joy of animal husbandry and the benefits of managing animals naturally. 1.5 Hour Tour.

La Grange Farmer’s Market & Artisans (Saturdays & Tuesdays, May – October)

Sat. 8am – 1pm, Tues. June – October 4pm – 7pm

Located in the covered pavilion at the end of the historic Main Street’s shopping district in La Grange, you’ll find locally-grown fruits and vegetables harvested within 24 hours of being purchased by the consumer. Farmers selling local are not limited to the few varieties that are bred for long distance shipping, high yields, and the shelf life of grocery chains. Taste produce picked to eat at the height of freshness and you just might find a little handcrafted jewelry and art along the way! Barn8 Restaurant at Hermitage (Wednesday – Sunday Dinner) is a fresh, modern take on farm-to-table dinner dining. Originally building #8 of Hermitage Farm’s historic horse stables, this innovative and delightful venue treats guests to sumptuous Kentucky flavors, all carefully composed from on-site gardens, greenhouses, as well as their bison farm across the street. This unique southern experience is truly food-forward.

 

Barn8 Picnic Lunch: Wednesday – Saturday  11am – 3pm pickup. Try a gourmet picnic lunch prepared fresh daily by Barn8 Restaurant using local ingredients! Your lunch will include a sandwich or wrap, one side, one pastry, and your choice of cold bottled beverage. Must be ordered at least 48 hours in advance.  $20 per person.

Eat, Drink and Be Merry in Oldham County!

Oldham Gardens, Crestwood (Open Wed – Sat at 4pm)

Come experience the state’s LARGEST beer garden! With a gorgeous outdoor beer garden (8+ acres!) in connecting greenhouses, you’ll enjoy some of region’s finest craft beers & cocktails surrounded by Kentucky native and decorative plantings. The beers are exclusive, so you won’t find find them in your supermarket! Enjoy the on-site Backside Grille while you are take in your gorgeous surrounds and live music on occasions.

Kentucky Artisan Distillery, Crestwood – Tour & Tasting $12pp

We are a very unique place in the world of distillery tours. This ice cream factory-turned-distillery started out as a contract bottler and distiller for many different customers. They now focus on three distinct primary brands: Jefferson’s Bourbons and Whiskey Row. With their grains grown around the corner at the historic Waldeck Mansion, guests are given an opportunity to learn the fascinating story behind the Jefferson’s brands, while touring a one-of-a-kind distillery and seeing the fascinating process of bourbon production… from grain-to-bottle. *Located on the same street as 3rd Turn Brewing and Yew Dell Botanical Gardens!

One Nineteen West Main

Though not a farm restaurant, we would be remiss not to mention One Nineteen West Main. This locally owned restaurant has gained national recognition for their Bacon Pie, which was featured on the Cooking Channel’s Best Thing I Ever Ate. Not only do they offer delicious and unique meals, but they also provide generous portions at reasonable prices in a fun and family-friendly atmosphere. Before or after your meal, take a short walk to La Vigne Wine Bar for a perfect wine pairing.

Knock on Wood Country Mercantile & Cafe

Another cool stop on this culinary adventure is perfect for all visitors and foodies alike. This cozy restaurant and shop is cabin-themed and offers a unique dining experience, complete with homemade soups, quiches, sandwiches, cakes, pies, ice cream, and scones.
