If you are traveling with a larger group and would like to have your own kitchen, Creasey Mahan is close to The Neal House Estate on Highway 42. With 6 bedrooms and huge enterainment lodge-style basement including a pool table, poker tables, big screen TV, and bar, there is plenty of room to spread out in this estate home for up to 14 guests. A large kitchen and 8 acres of gorgeousness, you’ll find plenty of room to gather and reconnect with loved ones…and nature…on the large winding patio under the trees.
Creasey Mahan Nature Preserve is a non-profit public charity established in 1975 through the legacy of Virginia Creasey Mahan and Howard Mahan. The Nature Preserve is a 170-acre family friendly destination in Goshen, KY (Exit 14 to US 42) that offers a complete family experience. In 2017 alone, 48,000 visitors were served! The Preserve maintains three historic buildings and offers a natural history museum for educational programs. Creasey hosts several events each year including Nature Camps, a Haunted Trail, and natural weddings.
With over 9 miles of wooded trails that weave through open grasslands, four year-round springs and waterfalls, frog pond, 2-acre woodland garden, and forested areas. Creasey Mahan Nature Preserve is a wonderful place to relax and take a leisurely hike or just enjoy picnic pavilions and native grasslands. Visit the natural history museum featuring a bird blind and a toddler’s magical forest play areas. The 207-year-old historic Mahan Manor and Spring House are also available for tours.
They may also have a picnic, camp overnight, walk their dog(s), and fly a kite in one of the open grassy areas. Creasey Mahan Nature Preserve offers something for everyone! We are open from dawn to dusk 365-days a year. There is no charge for enjoying the Nature Preserve!
Explore the Nature Center, Wednesdays 1pm – 4pm and Saturdays 10am-2pm. We have terrific crafts for kids to make, a scavenger hunt to explore the exhibits, a bird blind and our demonstration bee hive.
The perfect culinary complement to this getaway is a boxed lunch from Red Pepper Deli in either La Grange or Crestwood. There is nothing like a freshly made sandwich or salad and a cup of homemade soup. Creasey offers picnic tables throughout the preserve so you can take advantage of gorgeous views at every turn!
Creasey Mahan Nature Preserve, The Inn at Spring Run Farm, and The Neal House Estate are close to the city of Wesport, Oldham County’s access to the Ohio River. In Westport you’ll want to visit Knock on Wood Merchantile & Cafe. There you can order a lunch to go and head to Westport Park for a picnic by the river with views that will leave you breathless.
